Wollastonite
Wollastonite is named after William Hyde Wollaston, an English chemist and mineralogist who discovered the mineral in the late 1700s. Also known as calcium metasilicate (CaSiO3), wollastonite is a white, non-metallic, naturally occurring industrial mineral with an acicular or needle-like structure. This distinctive property makes wollastonite an ideal performance mineral for a variety of industrial and consumer applications.
The brightness and whiteness of wollastonite enhance its use as a functional filler along with its high pH, low water solubility and low melting point. Wollastonite is also completely inert and is a non-hazardous mineral which adds to its versatility in the marketplace.
