IMA Europe - Industrial Minerals Association

Sustainable Development

Social

Hundreds of communities around Europe depend upon the mineral industry for their economic well-being. It is our job to ensure that we are good neighbours, actively involved in community projects and with excellent records of environmental management, health and safety, and site restoration. Quarrying is a long-term commitment and-IMA Europe’s members adopt a long-term view of the impact of every aspect of their activities.

As an example of this, IMA is involved in continuing research into aspects of mineral extraction that most affect the communities the quarries belong to. For instance IMA’s Industrial Hygiene Project is aimed at harmonising the dust monitoring strategies of the European Minerals Industry to ensure a consistent approach more stringent than that demanded by legislation to protect our workers’ communities.

It is all part of the industry’s commitment to improving every aspect of what it does for the benefit of future generations.
