The EUROFEL Quality Scheme:

Together, the companies affiliated to EUROFEL have agreed to formalise, through a voluntary scheme, their commitment on the quality of the information they provide to their customers, on their products and on their operating practices.

The logo of the Eurofel quality scheme, which you can see on various supports, including bags, product data sheets, etc. is the sign that your supplier is indeed committed to this new-generation quality scheme.

Like most the quality schemes we are all familiar with, it is evolving and will progressively be enriched with additional elements, as the quest for better practices and information progress.

From now on the Eurofel quality scheme, encompasses three areas of key relevance for the users of feldspar products:

- The terminology of the products
- The reliability and comparability of product specifications
- The health and safety information to the customers.

Terminology

A great confusion used to prevail for the nomenclature of feldspar products. The producers involved in the scheme have agreed upon a standardised nomenclature, applicable to all the products they put on the market.

Reliability and comparability of product specifications.

A common definition can only be effective if one can rely upon the accuracy of the parameters used, and be sure that different suppliers grant the same meaning to them. In order to cope with this issue, the companies engaged in the the scheme have committed themselves to a perodic interlaboratory comparison system. It can of course not give any guarantee about the specification of every single product reaching any customer, but should rather be seen as an indice of reliability of the individual specifications each supplier provides with its products.

Health and safety information to customers.

Being at the very bottom of the supply chain, the companies involved in the scheme recognised the importance of providing simple and accurate health and safety information, along with their products. Practically, they recommended for instance to implement a warning label on small volume bags of fine feldspar products. For large conditioning, or simply for those customers who wish to know more, they have also prepared a more comprehensive safety information sheet. All concerns can obviously not be solved through general information only. That is the reason why the participating companies each offer their support to their customers for solving particular questions.

In the future: practices

From the beginning, the participating companies are generally applying high operating standards, notably regarding the environment. The likely next area of commitment under the scheme would be the worker protection and monitoring in the producing companies. These companies put it indeed very high in their agenda to bring as down as possible accidents and illnesses which might result from working in their operations.
