CCA - Europe brings together the main EU players in the different calcium carbonate sectors, being Ground Calcium Carbonate (GCC), Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC), or dolomite. Its membership also includes world leaders in lime production.


The CCA Member Companies are:


- ANKERPOORT NV (website: http://www.ankerpoort.com)  is one of the largest mineral processing companies in Europe. Apart from processing, we also focus on technical support and research & development on behalf of our customers. The Ankerpoort group is involved in mining, processing, refining, purchasing, and distribution of various raw materials, including calcium carbonate. These raw materials are delivered to the building, fiberglass, paper, oil & gas drilling, steel, paint, plastics, ceramics, chemical, agricultural and environmentally involved industries.


 CARMEUSE GROUP (website: http://www.carmeuse.com). Carmeuse is an international group, founded in 1860, leader in the production of lime and limestone. It produces calcitic and dolomitic limestone, quicklime, dolomitic lime and hydrated lime in 16 countries. The Carmeuse Group is in constant state of innovation as it develops a wide range of products and services, endowing them with multipurpose physical and chemical characteristics for specific applications such as iron and steel processing, non ferrous industry and mining, chemical industry, PCC production, solid waste, water and flue gas treatment, glass and ceramic, road construction, concrete and building industry.


VEREINIGTE KREIDEWERKE DAMMANN KG (website: http://wwww.dammann.de) was founded in 1966 and is part of the OMYA Group. The company mainly produces chalk for around 1 Mio tons per year. The headquarters are located in Söhlde (Germany) and the company has 3 production sites situated in Söhlde, Lägerdorf and Rügen. Dammann produces chalk for
user industries such as the paper, rubber and animal food.


 DANKALK (website: http://www.dankalk.com) has been quarrying limestone in Aggersund for more than 100 years. Initially, the lime works were privately owned, but in 1948 it was acquired by DAG. 1965 saw the establishment of Dagri A/S, which later became Dankalk A/S, and finally Dankalk in 1997. Dankalk is 100 % owned by DLG (Dansk Landbrugs Grovvareselskab) since 1969. The company's production is of approximately 600 000 tons per year.The headquarters are loacted in Logstor (Denmark). Dankalk has one production sites in Logstor, one in Roslev and two in Svenstrup. Their main markets are the agricultural, environmental and industrial sectors in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Latvia, Poland and Germany.


-  HUBER ENGINEERED MATERIALS (websites: http://www.huber.com, http://www.huberemd.com)  is a leading worldwide supplier of engineered minerals and speciality chemicals. We work closely with customers around the world to improve the optical and printing properties of paper and paperboard; to formulate glossy, bright paints; to design tires with reducing rolling resistance for greater fuel efficiency; to keep countertops looking new and make carpets more fire resistant. In Europe, we operate 12 plants, of which 8 plants produce precipitated carbonates.

-  OMYA OY (website: http://www.omya.com) is the major supplier and producer of fine ground calcium carbonate in Finland. The biggest customer segment is the paper industry. With local production plus storage terminals and ware houses, we are able to serve our customers in the whole country.

-  OMYA SPA (website: http://www.omya.com) is the subsidary of PLUESS-STAUFER (Switzerland) in Italy. OMYA SpA head office is located in Milano. The company is operating three facilities: one in Carrara, one in Vipitono and one in Nocera Umbra.

-  NORDKALK  AB (website: http://www.nordkalk.com)  is the leading producer of high quality limestone-based products in Northern Europe. The products are used mainly in the steel-, pulp-, and paper industries as well as in environmental care and agriculture. The product brand is Norkalk. Partek Nordkalk's net sales totalled EURO 187 million in 1999. Partek Norkalk employs some 1000 people. The company is fully owned by Partek Corporation.

- OMYA UK LTD. (website: http://www.omya.com) is a Plüss-Staufer company. It has many sites around the UK, with its headquarters in Dorking. The main areas of activity are limestone, chalk, marble, industrial minerals, chemicals.

- BEN BENNETTS JNR. LTD. (website: http://www.benbennettjrltd.co.uk/ ) is a family owned business which started in 1931. The headquarters are based in Rotherham, and the quarry and plant are located near Wirksworth. The main areas of activity are lump limestone for the glass and chemical industry, and ground limestone. The trade name is Bennite.

- FRANCIS FLOWER is a family owned company founded in 1953. The headquarters are based in Bath, and the quarry and plant in Ely. It mainly produces limestone fillers for the asphalt industry. Toll processing of industrial minerals is its other area of activity.

Imerys' UK operations are located near Beverley, Humberside and near Salisbury, Wiltshire.

 

- LONGCLIFFE QUARRIES LTD (website: http://www.longcliffe.co.uk) is a family owned business established in 1927 whose offices and plant are based in Brassington/Ryder Point (UK). Its main areas of activity are ground limestone, lump limestone, lime, precipitated calcium carbonate, dolomite, and dimensional stone/aggregates (granite). The products' trade names are Longcal, Superlon.

 

- MINELCO SPECIALITIES

 

- SPECIALITY MINERALS LIFFORD is a wholly owned division of Minerals Technologies Inc. of New York. Its offices and manufacturing plant are located in Birmingham. It only deals with processing. Its main area of activity is the production of precipitated calcium carbonate. Its products' trade names are Calofort, Calopake, and Sturcal.

TARMAC LIMITED (website: www.tarmac.co.uk) was established in 1903. It is a subsidiary of Anglo American Plc. TARMAC has two production sites in the UK and its headquarters are based in Buxton, Derbyshire. The company produces calcium carbonate for the animal feeds, fertilisers, carpet backing and cementitious markets.



The West European market for calcium carbonate is estimated at about 7 million tonnes (excluding lime).
