IMA-Europe is involved in issues relating to the properties and safe use ofminerals as well as their extraction, processing and distribution.Within the EU regulatory field, the Association supports its members by:

  • Keeping them updated on relevant developments in European legislation;
  • Providing National and European authorities with accurate and relevant information about industrial minerals;
  • Representing the industrial minerals sector and ensuring documented and co-ordinated positions on matters of concern to members.

IMA-Europe engages in the collection and exchange of scientific andsocio-economic data and acts as an information centre for the industrialminerals industry. Through its dialogue with the scientific community, theAssociation keeps itself updated on scientific developments.Information is publicly available through IMA’s web site whilst membershave privileged access to IMA’s information through its electronicnewsletter, extranet and document library.

IMA-Europe provides scientific support to its members and generates andcoordinates reviews and research projects on specific topics related tohealth & safety, environmental protection, and sustainable development.IMA-Europe takes part in standardisation work at EU and internationallevel regarding workers’ health and safety, environment and technicalaspects through its contacts with national experts and involvement ininternational organisations such as ISO (International Organisation forStandardisation) and CEN (European Committee for Standardisation).IMA-Europe aims to create public awareness of the importance ofindustrial minerals in the world and to present an enlightened image ofthe industry. It has launched a European-wide communication campaignentitled: “Essential, Beneficial and Smart Minerals: Your world is made ofthem.”
